Migration Methodology: Pre-Project Assessment

Determine Project Feasibility with a Pre-Project Environment Assessment!

Binary Tree’s comprehensive migration approach begins with a Pre-Project Assessment.  Prior to embarking on any migration initiative, customers are encouraged to assess and review their legacy environment in order to better scope and plan their migration project. Binary Tree’s Pre-Project Assessment phase ensures that customers uncover hidden costs and obstacles that may impact their migration efforts early on in the process.

The Pre-Project Assessment is intended to assist with high-level scoping of a  messaging and/or application migration project. This phase is completed using Binary Tree’s CMT Inspector for Lotus Notes (Express Edition) which is implemented on local Notes workstation(s) with connectivity to the Domino servers where the Domino mail files and applications reside.  The inspection processes and analysis performed during this phase typically includes the following:

·           Server Catalog

·         Application Catalog

·         Mail Box Inventory

·         Application Usage Inspection

·         Email Usage Analysis

·         Email Attachment Analysis

·         Email Archive Analysis

·         Email Server Configuration Analysis

·         Rooms and Resource Analysis

·         Sophistication and high-level Design Analysis

·         Export to MS Excel for Reporting

·         Migration Risk Detection

After performing a detailed assessment, customers will be able to:

·      Gain a high-level understanding of the existing Lotus/Notes Domino messaging and application environment

·      Understand email and application database usage, and identify unused databases and mail files that could potentially be archived

·      Understand scope of potential e-mail migration effort and determine size of application environment

·      Identify potential hidden costs and obstacles associated with an e-mail and application migration effort

·      Compile a list of databases that are based on Domino Discussion and Document Library templates that could be easily migrated to SharePoint

·     Determine feasibility and scope of potential migration project
